Man's Search for Meaning

Author: Viktor Frankl

Viktor Frankl is known as the developer of the third school of Viennese psychiatry - the school of logotherapy. The central theme of existentialism is: to live is to suffer; to survive is to find meaning in suffering.

If there is a purpose in life at all, there must be a purpose in suffering and in dying. But no man can tell another what this purpose is. Each must find out for himself, and must accept the responsibility that his answer prescribes.

The ultimate freedom and one's greatest power is to choose an attitude in a given set of circumstances.

Frankl's life story is a vivid testimony to man's capacity to rise above his outward fate.
